In September 2018, visionary hotel chain, The Lux Collective launched SALT, a five-star boutique hotel brand targeting the ‘culturally curious’. We were tasked with the creation of a new website to coincide with the launch of their first resort in Mauritius.
SALT was created to meet the growing demand from modern globe-trotters for authentic and sustainable travel experiences within local communities. Our brief was to design a site that would use SALT’s unique hotel philosophy to capture the imagination of site visitors, showcase their brand values, promote special offers and encourage direct bookings.
We designed the website to mirror the brand’s eclectic ethos using a clever balance of colour, type, photography and movement to build the sense of adventure and exploration.
With the Mauritian back-end development team 3 hours ahead, we had only a tight window for direct communication. Our fluid and collaborative approach allowed us to work in tandem with SALT to design, develop, test and refine a suite of flexible front-end templates and components.
While the site stays true to SALT’s values of not being too sales-driven or pushy, visitors are prompted to make reservations wherever they are on the site via a prominent sticky ‘Book Now’ function.
The website captures SALT’s boutique style perfectly – building on their brand identity to inspire and delight travellers rather than acting purely as a conversion-focused vehicle to drive bookings.
999 Design was by far the best choice of partner to help us create an amazing, different and top-notch website. From the very start, the team was incredibly patient, focused and they always made sure we could rely on them despite geographical differences. Their creative approach to our demanding brand guidelines was exemplary, to some extent spotless. Today we are proud to release our new elegant and funky website to the world and without the help of both Catherine and the incredibly talented David this wouldn’t have been possible.
