Ottolenghi
Website UX & Build

Penguin Random House asked us to streamline and futureproof the UX for Ottolenghi's digital recipe books, making it easier for the celebrity chef's fans to search for, find and store recipes online.

Challenge

Penguin were looking to bring all six of their Ottolenghi book microsites under one domain to simplify and streamline the experience from both a user and a CMS admin perspective.

Solution

After undertaking a sizeable content migration task, we introduced a global search and tagging system to allow users to search seamlessly across books and recipes.

UX refresh

We improved the login system so that all books would be ‘unlocked' via quiz questions and introduced a visual consistency and an intuitive UX to help users navigate and interact with the new website.

Result

The site was launched to coincide with the release of Ottolenghi’s new ‘Flavour’ book as the perfect digital companion for his fans. Feedback has been highly positive from existing users and from the internal Ebury Press and Penguin who praised the seamless transition to a new CMS, the improved UX and search as well as the easier unlocking process resulting in less manual work for their in-house team.
